Celso Manuel Rodriguez Ayala was born in Cuba and passed away in Portland, Oregon. He came to the US playing baseball for the Jacksonville Eagles in the negro league. He moved to Portland 30+ years ago from Omaha Nebraska and worked for the Rose Garden before retiring. “Manuel” was an icon of the Portland Latin music scene. A prominent figure sitting, clapping with the beat, & greeting everyone whom he made contact with. He would often be spotted around different parts of town strolling, window shopping, & being kind to everyone he would meet. Manuel resided alone in downtown Portland until his battle with prostate cancer ended on 04/19/2013 at 2:30am. The memories people have of him are forever cherished treasures into how his kindness may be remembered and allow his spirit to live on. May his soul rest in peace. Friends are invited to attend funeral services that will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 21, 2013 at the Wilhelm's Portland Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 6705 SE 14th Ave., Portland, OR 97202 (503) 236-4141
