Devon Cara Fisher

April 30, 1986 — September 9, 2016

Devon Cara Fisher, age 30, died unexpectedly the morning of September 9, 2016 after experiencing a seizure. Devon was born in White Salmon, Washington in a room overlooking the Columbia River Gorge. She added to the joy of her parents, Stephen and Kathy Fisher, and brother Ryan. Devon had many fond memories of her life and friends in White Salmon. In 1992 the family moved to Camas, Washington where Devon attended elementary and middle school. She was a member of 4-H where she learned to love creating hand made items. At the age of nine she sewed and entered a quilt into the Clark County Fair and was very proud of the Honorable Mention ribbon she earned. Like many of the women in her family, she enjoyed quilting and crocheting for the rest of her life and gifted many of her creations to those she cared about. Devon moved to Portland with her mom in 2001. She attended LaSalle High School in Milwaukie, Oregon, graduating with honors in 2004. Devon enjoyed being on the tennis and snowboard teams and running cross country with her classmates. During the summer she volunteered as a ZooTeen and particularly liked the snakes and reptiles. Throughout her high school years Devon volunteered regularly with the Oregon Food Bank and eagerly anticipated accepting donations at the Waterfront Blues Festival. Like many of her peers, she read all the Harry Potter books as soon as they were available and then read them again because she enjoyed them so much! Her love of magical things stayed with her for the rest of her life. Devon attended Southern Oregon University, graduating with a BS in Applied Physics in 2008. She stayed at SOU for a fifth year to complete a post-graduate accounting certificate. While at SOU Devon worked part-time at the university and at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. She appreciated the small town quality of Ashland and enjoyed being surrounded by intelligent and creative people. After five years in Ashland Devon was ready to return to Portland. Despite the onset of the recession, Devon was fortunate to obtain employment at Horizon Engineering. The small, family owned company offered Devon a good environment to gain work skills and experience. After Horizon was bought by Montrose Environmental, Devon stayed on and was excited to be given more responsibility and opportunities. Outside of work, Devon was a dedicated and enthusiastic tennis player. She loved the team camaraderie and the physical and mental challenges of the game. She also participated in several Hood and Portland to Coast races, and even danced on stage at the after race party. Devon was well known for wearing colorful garb and costumes to make any activity more fun. This made people smile and made her mother very, very proud! Devon loved to spend quality time with friends and family, and especially enjoyed playing group games. Some of her favorites were Trivial Pursuit, Joker and Cards Against Humanity. She was always a worthy competitor and a good sport, no matter the outcome. Devon leaves behind a loving extended family, her boyfriend Ron, and many caring friends and co-workers. Devon’s life was cut short way too soon but she lived 30 Years of Awesome. Devon embodied a brave and pure spirit and is missed by all who knew and loved her. A celebration of life is planned for October 21, 2016 from 4-6 PM at the Hawthorne Lucky Lab.
