Doris Jean Uhlman

August 14, 1934 — August 14, 2018

Doris Jean "Granny" Uhlman passed away on August 14, her 84th birthday, after a long and brave battle with cancer. Doris was born in Moscow, Idaho to Jack Trimble and Frances Cooney on August 14, 1934. She married Robert Uhlman in 1955 and moved to Portland not long after. She had three children: Patti Jones (Greg Kluthe), Karen Meyer (Jim Meyer) and Shawn Uhlman (Amy Frazier); five grandchildren: Clint Jones (Skye), Ray Meyer (Tiffini), Mitch Jones (Kelsi), Jake Meyer (Samantha) and Cooper Uhlman; and eight great-grandchildren: Madi, Abbey, Jackson, Landon, David, Ailey, Aubrey and Tegan. Doris was a truly special person. Once you knew her, you were part of her world forever - and that meant you could expect a card on your birthday. She was a huge fan of the Trail Blazers, and yes, she sent birthday cards to Buck, Clyde, Duck, Terry and Jerome. She had an infectious laugh that nearly always interrupted and added to her stories. She searched for, and usually found, the good in all people. Granny's jelly, her homemade mac-n-cheese and her ability to clean absolutely anything with white vinegar were legendary. She enjoyed gardening, anything purple, and trips to the Oregon Coast, but above all other things she loved her family (and Frank Sinatra). Doris was preceded in death by her brothers Robert Trimble and Jack Trimble and her granddaughter-in-law Tiffini Meyer. She is survived by her husband Bob, her sister Betty Wernecke of Moscow, Idaho, and a network of family and friends almost too numerous to count, all of whom loved her "to the moon and back." In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance at ocrfa.org or to the Knight Cancer Institute at onwardohsu.org/donation A celebration of life will be held Saturday, September 8 at 1:30 p.m. at Wilhelm's Portland Memorial, 6705 SE 14th Avenue, Portland OR 97202
