Dorothy (Dotty) Hiltner was born in Abington, PA, to Henry Lloyd and Margaret (Sarge) Haupt. The family, including her sister, Betty, moved from place to place, taking only the piano as furniture. She graduated from Shortridge High School in Indianapolis, IN, and from the University of Washington in Political Science. On September 17, 1948, she married John R. Hiltner. They moved to Portland, where they raised their family, David, Peggy and Pat.
Dotty and John hosted the “Hiltner Hotel”, an in-between stopover for family and friends. They enjoyed traveling. Dotty’s joys were opera, symphony, and every kind of music. She loved John, her kids and her grandkids. She loved football.
Dotty lived a life of service, working with many groups, and was an amazing organizer. Her job as secretary at Rose City Park Presbyterian Church suited her, as she was hardworking, money savvy, and cared about people.
Preceded in death by John in 2011, Dotty is survived by her children, David Hiltner (Nelda), Peggy Glascock (Bob) and Pat Otstot (Roger); her grandsons, Greg (Melissa) and Tim Glascock, Christopher Hiltner, Miles Otstot, and Terry (Julie) Casey; and her great-grandchildren Zac, Lillie and Adalyn. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
The many people who loved Dotty will miss her smiles, energy and good works.
