Elizabeth Ann Re (Betty, Babe) passed away peacefully at her home with family Monday, August 26, 2013.
Elizabeth was born in Portland Oregon on February 20th, 1921, one of seven children, to John and Mary Schechtel. She resided in Portland her entire life.
She graduated from St. Agatha Grade School, Commerce High School and then business school. She worked for Hudson and Duncan directly out of business school, then went on to work for Standard Oil, in their accounting department. She counted collections at St. Agatha Church from 1935 when she was a freshmen in high school. She then counted collection at Sacred Heart and, finally, Holy Family until 2011 at the age of 90.
She married Leo J. Re in 1946 . They built their home in 1951, where she raised their four children, and lived for 62 years. Her husband Leo passed away in 1964 at age 42.
She loved her family, babysitting her grandchildren, crocheting blankets for her family, gardening and reading. It is hard to calculate the amount of T- ball, soccer, baseball, basketball, softball and volleyball games she attended. Elizabeth was a volunteer at Loaves and Fishes / Meals on Wheels for 40 years.
She is survived by her children James (Jeanne), Diane Lake (Bill), Thomas (Kathy), and Gina Gende, 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Long time family friend Christopher Predeek.
She is preceded in death by her husband Leo, grandson Gregory, and son- in- law Mark Gende.
Mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church on Thursday August 29th at 10:30 am. The Church is located at 39th and SE Flavel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis TN 38101-9929, Meals on Wheels, or a charity of your choice.
