Hainley, Genevieve (Leipzig) 87 Nov. 20, 1927 Oct. 21, 2015 Genevieve Virginia Leipzig was born Nov. 20, 1927, to Peter and Helena Leipzig. She joined her brothers, Jim, Bob and George on Spokane Street in Sellwood and was an older sister to Dorothy. Genevieve attended St. Agatha grade school and graduated from St. Mary's Academy in 1945, where she excelled at tennis, volleyball and basketball. She lived in the Sellwood neighborhood for the entirety of her 87 years, except for a brief adventure to California where she met her handsome husband, Philip Vincent Hainley. After a whirlwind romance, the couple married and moved back to her family home on Spokane Street. Phil and Gen raised 10 kids in Sellwood, where all attended St. Agatha and continued their Catholic education through high school. Gen was remembered by neighbors for riding her bike through the neighborhood streets, hollering for kids to come home for dinner and driving her precious Crown Victoria cautiously but with purpose through the neighborhood. The various hats she wore included Catholic Youth Organization volleyball coach, bank teller and berry bus driver/platoon leader. She was sis, mom, Granny Boots and The General. Genevieve was a vital force at St. Agatha Parish where, well into her 80s, she could be found attending daily Mass, tending to the parish garden, organizing alumni functions and doling out love and sass to her community. She is survived by her children, Philip (Barb), Michael (Mary), Patrick (Jan), Christopher (Sharon), Maureen Haines (John), Kevin (Holly), Kathy Laskowski (Pat), Matt (June), Peter (Leocadia) and Bernadette Conover (Curt); 27 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Genevieve wishes to be remembered as "a kind soul who would help people." She will be remembered for her love of her church and gardening, undying support for her family, winning smile and strong hands. She was a die hard Trail Blazers fan, rhubarb connoisseur and had a love for all things dessert, especially marionberry and peach pie. She was the best of the best. If Gen touched your life, please consider making a donation to Friends of St. Agatha School in her name.
