Gloria S. Catalan

September 16, 1921 — August 2, 2016

Gloria (Colistro) Catalan was born in Portland, Oregon, where she lived her entire life. The ninth of ten daughters born to John and Filomena Colistro, she passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Catalan attended Lincoln High School where she was an avid athlete that loved to compete in basketball. After high school, she met her husband Anthony Catalan and they married in 1941. Widowed in 1963, she soon went to work at Eastmoreland Golf Course to support their two children, beginning a career that would span 40 years. Gloria became a fixture in the pro shop, and golfers from all over the city would remember her for the brilliant smile and genuine compliments she would so kindly give. Throughout her life she was a golfer, bowler and would become a champion Bocce Ball player. In her 70's she walked The Portland Marathon. Catalan was also known for her ability to cook. Whether it was meat balls, pizzelles or frizzitis, she never let you leave hungry. She is survived by children Anthony Catalan (Bonnie), Gloria Catalan Amato (Ted), grandchildren Tony, Tracey (Brian), Andrea (Matt), Ashley, Gavin and seven great-grandchildren who all loved their Nona very much.
