Gregory Mako
April 21, 1953 - April 9, 2015
Gregory Mako was born in Portland, Oregon, April 21, 1953, to Stanley and Grace Mako. He was their only child.
Greg attended Jefferson High School and Treasure Valley CC. He graduated from Portland State University with a Bachelor of Science. He played baseball throughout his school years. His father and he had a special relationship, and they shared their passion for baseball and bowling. In 1976, he made the Portland State baseball All-Star NOR-PAC Conference, the first time a DH position was selected.
Greg married the love of his life, Susan, who he met at PSU. They enjoyed long walks together in their SE Portland neighborhood and would have celebrated their 40th anniversary in September. He imparted his love of animals to their only child Renee.
Greg started out in insurance sales that led him to his successful career in medical sales. He especially enjoyed his years working for Shaw Surgical and the good friends he made there. Later, he did collection recovery for US Bank and Wells Fargo Bank. His ability to communicate effectively was his forte and earned him various awards throughout his career.
He loved his home, yard and his teams, the Portland Trail Blazers and the NY Yankees. He was an avid reader of the local newspapers and the NY Times.
He is survived by Susan, Renee and his mother, Grace. A memorial gathering will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, April 21 at Wilhelm's Portland Memorial Funeral Home. Donations may be made in Gregory's name to an animal welfare organization.
