Gregory Dee Smith of Portland, Oregon passed over on October 19, 2013 at the age of 54.
Greg was born in Bend, Oregon on August 31, 1959 to Sybil K. Cowapoo Smith of The Confederated Tribes of Umatilla and Kenneth L. Smith of The Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs Reservation of Oregon. Greg was an enrolled member of The Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs Reservation of Oregon.
His life journey took him through Warm Springs, Madras, San Francisco, Pendleton, and Portland. In 1977 he graduated from Madras High School where he enjoyed golf and bowling. Greg continued his higher education receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology in 2006 from Portland State University. He was working on his Master’s Degree in Public Administration. While attending college he worked for OHSU, Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs and Portland State University in office administration.
Greg enjoyed spending time and volunteering at the Native American Student Community Center at Portland State University. He was active with the Native Center Pow Wows and offered assistance whenever he could.
Greg was known for his intellect, his wit and his laughter. He was a beautiful sensitive soul with a gentle and loving heart.
He loved motion pictures, often amusing people with his almost photographic memory of dialogue and scenes. Greg enjoyed meeting friends for lunch, spending holidays with his family and maintaining friendships by telephone.
Greg was preceded in death by his mother, Sybil Cowapoo Smith. Greg is survived by his father, Kenneth L. Smith (Jeanie), his sister, Michele K. Hensel (Kendal), his step-sisters, Debra Adele Daniels, Becky Rae Schroeder (David) and numerous much loved Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and countless friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Wilhelm’s Portland Memorial, 6705 SE 14th Ave., Portland, Oregon 97202. Burial Services will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Agency Cemetery at Warm Springs off of Highway 26 in Warm Springs, Oregon.
