For 40 years or so, James was an artist who considered himself an expressionist heavily influenced by previous expressionist artist as well as by Asian artist. Hopefully his paintings have something to say about nature. For nature was his primary inspiration and a metaphor for emotion. James was born and raised in Oakland, CA and lived throughout the bay area before retiring to Portland, OR in 2007. He is survived by his loving wife and friend Nancy Mayo, sister-in-law Betty Mayo and Laurie Silverman and life time friend Brian Purvis and his two cats. He will be missed and his memory will live on in his paintings
