Janice "Curran" Collins

July 23, 1934 — April 25, 2018

Janice Curran Collins of Portland, OR passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 25th. Jan was born in Baltimore, MD, to Marguerite and James P. Curran. She attended school at Mount de Sales Academy in Catonsville, MD, and she had cherished memories of her years there. She went on to the Peabody Institute of the City of Baltimore and earned a degree in music education in their Conservatory of Music. She was a classically trained pianist. In 1953 she met the love of her life, Oliver Dale Collins. They met on a blind date at the great seal in Gilman Hall at Johns Hopkins University and it was love at first sight. They married in 1955 and raised three children after they settled in San Diego, CA, in 1969. Jan had an avid love of reading, history, traveling and music. She was a patron of the arts in San Diego supporting the Old Globe Theatre and the San Diego Comic Opera. She volunteered on archeological digs in San Diego County and was a docent at El Presidio Real de San Diego. She is survived by her spouse of 62 years, Dr. Oliver Dale Collins III; son, Dale; two daughters, Carey Collins and Valerie Collins; their spouses; and five grandchildren. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Elite Care’s Oatfield Estates and Brighton Hospice for their care and support during this time. Jan’s family is respecting her wish to not hold a memorial service. In lieu of flowers please send donations in her name to Mount de Sales Academy in Catonsville, MD.
