A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, February 27, 2016 in the Willamette View Manor Auditorium, 13021 SE River Rd. for John I. Hodges Sr. who died February 19, 2016.
John was born on November 21, 1919 in Blue Ridge Summit, PA. His familay moved to Seattle, WA in 1931 where he attended grade school, high school, and the University of Washington where he received his Batchelor of Science in Fisheries. He served 4 years in the US Army during World War II and was discharged with the rank of Captain. He participated in the landing at Omaha Beach, Normandy, France where he recieved a battle field promotion. The French Government has recognized his service with the "Legion of Honor" award. In his eleven years with the Oregon Fish Commission he served in the Research Division and was the Assistant Director of the agency when he transferred to the US Bureau of Commercial Fisheries in Washington D.C. It was in that agency that he was Chief of the Branch of Alaska Fisheries (before statehood), then Deputy Assistant Director of the Division of Resource Development, and for four years was the US Commissioner to the North Pacific Fur Seal Commission.
He is predeceased by his wife Marian Elliot Hodges. He is survived by his sister Marjorie Stensrud, daughter Shirley Costley, son John I. Hodges Jr., 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
