John Mcmillan Rose

John McMillan Rose (Jack) born to Gordon E. Rose and Violet (Helen) Rose in Chicago, IL on May 27, 1928. John retired from Boyd's Coffee Co. after working 36 years in the shipping department. He also worked at Meier and Frank Co. after he retired. John was a member of the Naval Reserve. He met and married Arlene (Kerr) Rose at a Naval Reserve Dance in 1950. They married February 11, 1951. They have one son, Gordon (Rhonda) of Charlotte, N.C. and one daughter, Janice (Jim) Weichman of Ridgefield, WA. John's parents and sister, Jean Blankenship and nephew, John Blankenship predeceased him. He is survived by his wife, Arlene and Gordon and Janice. Also, a neice Darl Blankenship as well as neices Kim (Steve and family) of Bend and Jill (Jim) Holmes of Hood River. His three grandchildren are Dusten Weichman, Libby Weichman and Erin Weichman Smith (James). Four great grandchildren Austen and Rusten Weichman, Olivia and Averie Smith. Two step-grandchildren Mathew Sherrick (Elysia) and Melissa Rix (Alix) - four step-great grandchildren, Myles, Griffin, Gracie and Graham. In May of 2002 John was paralyzed with Transverse Mylitis. He was determined to walk and write again. With the help of physical therapy and family he beat the odds and did walk and write. Thank you to Providence Physical Therapy and Home Health Team. John's interests were family, boating and traveling with his wife, Arlene and brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Shirlee Kerr of Hood River. Camping, road trips to Canada and the Oregon Coast were favorites along with traveling to Hawaii. He loved parades and marching bands especially the Portland Rose Parade. At John's request, no service will be held. Donations can be made to the Humane Society or to a charity of your choice in his honor. A special thank you to his foster care givers Steve and Edina for the wonderful care they gave John at "Tigardville Independent Living". Thank you to Providence Home Health and for the hospice care John received. He will be missed. Service Information
