Kathryn M. Roy

Kathy Roy, 65, passed away unexpectedly in her Lake Oswego home the morning of Dec. 16, 2013. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Mike Roy; daughter, Wendy (Roy) McCullough; son-in-law, Tyler McCullough; son, Joshua Roy; daughter-in-law, Amanda Roy; grandson, Colton McCullough (5); granddaughter, Harley McCullough (22 months); and sister, Frances Hanna. Born in Hernando, Miss., Kathy's family moved West to start a new life when she was still very young. Raised in Sellwood, Kathy graduated from Cleveland High School in 1966 and subsequently Portland State University, with a Bachelor of Arts in 1971. After staying home to raise two children, she returned to college to earn a Bachelor of Science at Oregon Health & Science University in nursing. Graduating with honors, Kathy earned membership in the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International. Licensed as a registered nurse, she started her professional career at the Oregon State Hospital where she has worked for 18 years as a nurse and ultimately a nurse manager at the Oregon State Hospital - Portland. Kathy enjoyed gourmet cooking, collecting some 300 cookbooks, reading, bargain hunting, road trips and spending quality time with her family. She will always be remembered for her unselfish caring, generosity and beautiful smile. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at Wilhelm's Portland Memorial, 6705 S.E. 14th Ave., Portland, OR 97202.
