Kenneth Bixel Obituary On May 8th, Ken lost his long battle with cancer at age 78 years. He was born to Waldo and Eulalia Bixel in Salem Oregon, the last of five children on April 20, 1935. The family moved to Portland where Ken attended Hosford grade and Washington High schools. After high school he became interested in aviation and spent many happy hours flying his first plane, a Piper Cub. While flying he met another pilot and they soon were wed. They had three children, Dan, Kathy, and Kenny (AKA Hans von Bischel). Ken was active as goalie for the Portland Royals semi-pro hockey club. He worked for several years for the Hazeltine Company and then forty years for General Tool and Supply, retiring in 2000. Ken was pre-deceased by his parents, brothers Waldo and Jim, sister Vernetta Congdon, and daughter Kathy. He is survived by brother Fred (Jean), sons Dan and Hans, wife of fifty six years Bev, two grandchildren, and one great grandson. A memorial service will be held on June 1, 2013 at Wilhelm's Portland Memorial Funeral Home..6705 S.E. 14th Ave, Portland at 11:00 AM.
