September 21, 1912 — November 18, 2016

Marcile T. Wallace Francis Marcile Thomas-Minor Smith-Wallace Sep. 21, 1912 – Nov. 18, 2016 Marcile was born Frances Marcile Thomas on September 21, 1912 to Charles Emerson Thomas and Marianne Brown-Humble. Mr. Thomas passed on March 22, 1915. Her mother Marrianne remarried Donald Minor and they had a daughter Barbara J. Minor (Hottinger), Marcile’s beloved sister. She lived her entire life in Portland and passed away at Harvest Homes after a short battle with Viral Pneumonia at the age of 104. During her youth she was active in Camp Fire Girls and remained active returning each year to Camp Namanu with her Granddaughters until 2014. Please see the below 2014 Oregonian article. http://photos.oregonlive.com/oregonian/2014/08/camp_namanu_18.html She met and married Howard H. Smith (1909-1961) on June 1, 1934. They had 4 children Howard H. (Howie) Jr, Richard Mark (1938-1939), Sandra A. Lien (1942-2015) and Mark W. After Howard’s death she met and married Richard H. Wallace on Sept. 30, 1961 who along with daughter Kathryn A. and son Richard M. became Marcile’s “expanded” family. For most of her life she was a housewife and mother. She enjoyed taking care of her Children, Grandchildren and even her Great Grandchildren. However in 2000 at the age of 88 she decided to expand her child care expertise and went to work at the Gateway Fred Meyer store near her apartment where she worked in their Playland department for almost 7 years, taking care of shoppers children, it was here where she became affectionately and lovingly known as “Miss Marci”. The children loved her because at 4 ft 8in, she was almost their size and at an age well into her 80’s to mid 90’s she was fun to be around even getting down on the floor to play with them. Marcile was active in several fraternal organizations including, Daughters of the Nile, the order of the Eastern Star, as well as being a past guardian of Jobs Daughters, Bethel 67 where her daughter Sandra was selected as the first Honored Queen after branching off of Bethel 1. Funeral services for Marcile will be held at St Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church 1704 NE 43rd Ave, Portland, OR 97213 on Saturday December 10, 2016 at 3:00pm followed by a private internment of her ashes in the St Michael’s columbarium where she will join husband, Howard and their infant son Dicky.
