Margaret "Peggy" Rivet

October 4, 1941 — December 30, 2016

Margaret Alice Rivet (lovingly called Peggy) passed from this world the morning of December 30, 2016 after a gradual decline in health due to COPD. She was lovingly supported by her family and caregivers during the last days of her life. Peggy was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 4, 1941. Peggy was an "Army Brat" and lived in Okinawa, Japan and Ft. Lewis Washington. She ending up in Portland Oregon where she lived for most of her life, raised her son, and retired from the City of Portland Water Bureau. She met and married the love of her life Larry Rivet on July 1, 1984, and asked that she be buried at sea with him on the Oregon Coast so she would not be lonely. Peggy was known for her curious and loving spirit, as well as her warmth, sensitivity, and great sense of humor. She was a master seamstress and loved making quilts, clothing, and gifts. She really enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, making rugs, crocheting, playing card games, and reading. Peggy is survived by her two brothers, Bob and John Sweeney and her sister Elizabeth "Liz" Davis, as well as her only son, Bruce W. Barnes, Jr, his wife Sema Barnes and her 3 grandchildren; Christina Steimle, and her husband Bradley, and great grandchildren Jayden and Kayla; Bruce W. Barnes III and his wife Jiji, and their children Izaiah and Lincoln; and her youngest grandchild, Tanya Barnes and her new fiancé Jeremy. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her. Her memorial service will be held on January 14, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Wilhelm's Portland Memorial at 6705 SE 14th Portland, Oregon 97202. Service Information
