Marie Ledbetter passed away in a peaceful sleep on the morning of Halloween. Marie was born and raised in Bremerton/Port Orchard Washington.
She was a person of great imagination who embraced literature, ideas and philosophy. Possessed of an exceptionally creative mind, she aspired to become a writer herself and showed great talent and promise.
She maintained a great interest in the study of the cosmos and the space-time continuum. Marie never identified with the conventional thinking of her 1950’s youth and spent her entire life dissuading others from prejudice and narrow-minded intolerance.
Her greatest passion was for the preservation of the natural earth and the protection and humane treatment of all animals, which lead to her becoming a vegetarian. At various times throughout Marie’s life she had rescued and loved chickens, ducks, an owl, squirrel, chipmunk, possums, mice, and a numerous array of cats and dogs. Marie was above all a kind and decent person who was perhaps, born ahead of her time.
She encouraged and raised (with her husband Raymond) five open-minded sons who will sorely miss her presence on earth. She is survived by her sons Christian (& wife Mary), Anthony, Hayden, Bryan and Jonathan, grandsons Brian Dustin, Benjamin, Corey and great granddaughter Chloe’ (Ledbetters all), as well as her beloved sisters Marilyn (& husband David) Pratt, Joann (& husband John) Happy and brother Dale Thackston.
She will also be missed by her last remaining steadfastly loyal and protective cat Virgil Bartholomew, whom she rescued from the winter cold of her private woodland acres. He slept in her left arm every night.
