Marjorie Aldanette Stone

August 20, 1915 — October 23, 2016

Marjorie Aldanette Stith was born August 20, 1915 to Roy and Rosa Stith of Ridgefield, WA. She graduated from Ridgefield High School and began her first job at J.C. Penney’s in Vancouver. She traveled by train daily from her home in Ridgefield. She married Gordon Stone, Sr. in 1934. Their first home was a “makeshift” bedroom in a basement maintenance room of a 4 story building that rented rooms. They moved to Gaston for a few months and then lived with Marge’s parents. Their next move took them to Gladstone and through the years they built and lived in several different homes in Gladstone. Marjorie had great math skills and worked as a bookkeeper for a nursery. Later she worked for about 15 years as a postal clerk, working at several different U.S. Post Offices in the Portland area. She thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and spent many hours with her family hunting and fishing. She always looked forward to the annual fishing trip to Alaska and caught a lot of salmon – weighing as much as 70 pounds! She was a great hunter and bagged elk, deer, and even a bear as well as ducks and geese. Marjorie also enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking, and was generally found crocheting an afghan well into her 90’s. She is survived by her son, Gordon, Jr. (Bud) of Gladstone. Marge had a great work ethic and a wonderful personality. She made many lifelong friends during her 101 years and many people referred to her as “Mom”. She will be greatly missed.
