"Cheers" our mom would say at any of her favorite toasts. It continued, "But if by chance anyone should disagree, to heck with you (kind of). Mom had her convictions.
Mary Geraldine (Ingle) Mischke was born on December 15 1932 in Danville, Illinois to Margaret and Wilbur Ingle. The family moved to Vanport Oregon until the flooding of Vanport and then moved to Portland, OR.
Mom never avoided work of any kind. She was a very independent person. She worked as a Janitorial Manager for the Portland Public school district, Medical Records Administrative for East Moreland Hospital, Teacher assistant for Portland Public School District teaching foreign children English, reading, writing, and math. The children always referred to her as “Grandma Mary”, and she loved it. Mom's credentials never accurately measured her immeasurable capabilities.
Mom was proudest of her family and friends. She was a committed sister, a caring and loving mother, a delightful grandmother, awesome great grandmother, and a wonderful friend. There wasn’t a person that met her that weren’t affected by her overwhelming friendliness, happy spirit all of the time, and openness to share her life and love with anyone. People like our mom don't just come out of nowhere. They are formed out of trials, tempered by circumstances and seasoned with love.
Her personal interests included gardening, reading, playing games, going to the gym, going to the beach with family, family gatherings, and “a little partying”.
Mom loved the holidays. She decorated her home for every holiday you could think of, but especially Christmas. She decorated her entire house with lights and decorations every single year. She was so happy with her home decorated and playing her country Christmas music. She loved inviting people to her home at this time of year. She held a huge family gathering every Christmas Eve at her home every year of her life. She was so pleased to celebrate this time with the family.
Father Wilber, mother Margaret, son Robert Ingle, and sister Fredia Manning preceded her in death. She is survived by daughter Beverly & Donald (son-in-law), sons Donovan and Walter & Destine (spouse); sisters Josephine, Jeanie & Don (Brother in Law); grandchildren Tammy & Dane (spouse), Donald & Echo (spouse), Starlene & Tervaris (spouse), Robert, Danielle, Sean, and great- grandchildren Haley, Zack, Madi, Maleia, Noah, Ashley, Hannah, and proclaimed by her as her self-adopted grandchildren Ximena and Jesse.
While I wasn’t the one most into it, I want to say “Cheers” to you Mom and keep spreading all of that joy and happiness you always shared with all of us. The angels are blessed to have you join them. We are going to miss you desperately as you were and always will be “my best friend”, wonderful mother, grandmother and sister.
A celebration of Mary’s life will be held on July 28, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Rockwood Methodist Church, 17805 SE Stark St, Portland, OR 97233.
