Mary (Cacicia) Niehaus passed away peacefully with family at her side on Tuesday, September 11, 2018. She was born in Portland, Oregon on September 3, 1930 and was preceded in death by her mother and father, Pete and Mamie (Piazza) Cacicia, and her sister Jo Anne Schubbe. Mary is survived by her husband of 63 years Ray, and three children; Lori Ryland, Matthew and Michael Niehaus, and six grandchildren. Mary attended Abernathy grade school and Commerce High School, graduating in 1948. After high school she worked for Firemen’s Fund Insurance Co. in Portland for seven years. Mary and Ray were married on April 16, 1955 at St. Phillip Neri Catholic church in Portland and were blessed with 63 years of loving marriage. Mary was a phenomenal wife, mother, and sister. She was an extraordinary baker and known for her authentic Italian cooking. She volunteered at Providence Hospital for 10 years. She enjoyed card games and bowling. Mary and Ray moved to Russellville Retirement center in 2005 which she thoroughly enjoyed and had many friends. The family extends their sincerest gratitude to all her caring staff at Pacifica Memory Care and Providence Hospice who lovingly took care of her for the last 2 years. Remembrances can be made to St Andre Bessette Church and Mount Angel Seminary. A funeral will be held at 11:00 Am at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, on September 27, 2018. This will be preceeded by a rosary at 10:30. There will also be a reception following the Mass at the church, 2408 SE 16th Ave Portland Oregon, 97214.
