Amalia (Mollie S.) Willman was born to Henry and Marie Schneider, May 22, 1918, in Calgary Alberta, Canada. She was sixth in a family of nine children. After moving to Portland, Oregon, Mollie attended Albina Homestead grade school and graduated from Jefferson High School. She became a certified comptometer operator and went to work at Sunshine Bakers. In the spring of 1943, an unknown handsome soldier in uniform walked past her home. “I’m going to marry that man!” she told her mother. On November 13, 1943, Mollie and her soldier, Harry C. Willman, were married. Following Harry’s military service, the couple returned to Portland and made their home. They had two daughters, Charlotte and Victoria. Mollie returned to work as a department manager for the main branch of US National Bank, retiring in 1975.
Mollie loved playing sports and games. She played volleyball and softball in her younger years, and golf, pool, and bingo throughout her retirement. She was also a master at the arts of sewing, crochet, and cross-stitch. In recent years, the genealogy enthusiast wrote stories filled with fond memories of her Volga German heritage. Her leisure activities included listening to music, reading, and watching old-time movies.
Mollie made friends easily, and she liked to keep in touch with everyone she met along life’s path. She is survived by her daughters, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, all a source of love and pride to her.
