Peggy Claire Phillips was born on Valentine's Day 1921, the second child of Homer and Francis Phillips. She attended Sabin grade school, Madeline parish and Grant High School where she was chosen at the age of 16 to be Snow White on a float in the Portland Rose Festival Parade. As a young lady she enjoyed roller skate dancing at Oaks Park as well as making cookies, candies and clothing.
Peggy worked for the Bonneville Power Administration as an administrative assistant when shorthand was the standard means of taking dictation. She loved big band music and enjoyed dancing to many of the well known swing and jazz band live performances at the Crystal Ballroom or Jantzen beach in the 40's.
