He was stationed aboard various merchant ships and traveled around the world two and a half times; making stops in Australia, Sri Lanka, India and various other locales.
Bob was a member of the International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trade, IBPAT, Local 10. He was a second generation painter and worked in the trade for over 40 years, retiring in 1986. Bob loved the outdoors, often hunting and fishing with family and friends. Bob hunted as recently as five years ago and fished with a good friend just a few weeks ago. He was a long time member of the Oregon Duck Hunters Association. A member of the Elks for 31 years, he loved playing Bingo on Thursday nights at the Tualatin Elks, and was often called “Bingo Bob”. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and the National Rifle Association.
Bob and Ann made approximately three hundred and fifty lap quilts for wounded and sick veterans at the Portland Veteran’s Center and children at the Elk’s Childrens Eye Clinic. Bob cut thousands of fabric squares and borders while Ann sewed the pieces together. Each quilt was made with love and given to individuals in hopes of making their day a little warmer in many ways.
